CLABOUGH'S CAMPGROUND
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee - July, 2009
This trip was extra fun.. mostly because of the company. I camped right across from a couple of friends. We went our own way during the day (I just wasn't into Dollywood this time) ..but it was nice being able to sit around the campfire and talk and laugh each night. It's always fun to have someone nearby to shout at, wave at... or visit with during my stay at the campground.
During the first full day there I rode the trolley around. Made connectiuons and went all the way in to Gatlinburg. The second day I drove into the Smoky Mts National Park. It's a shame that so many people visit this area and never leave the bright lights and man made attarcations. The park is really a treasure. it's so beatiful. I drove to Clingman's Dome and made the half-mile, uphill, walk to the observation tower. It was easier to do the last time I was there.. about 15 years ago. I then went on over to Cherokee to see Harrah's Casino. I didn't win or lose.. because I didn't bet! Just walked around and enjoyed a complimentary diet Mountain Dew.
Over-all.. Calbough's campground is not my favorite place.. but it's not bad. Sites are pretty close together and could use some TLC,... new gravel,..etc. The Wi-Fi was great.. cable TV was perfect and the paved roadways made bike riding easy. I camped on site #92 on the back side of the CG.. I think sites in the front might be a little nicer and better maintained.
I stayed for three nights this trip. Those two night trips just seem so fast. Almost like you just get everyhting organized.. and it's time to tear down.
*JayBird: My son (Brian) rescued JayBird from his Granpa and Grandma's garbage can.. Now he has a home in our Jayco camper.. and seems to enjoy camping.
